Students interested in a minor in the history of art must complete 21 hours of coursework including 6 hours (2 courses) of prerequisites and 15 hours (5 courses) of upper-level courses.
Students must complete ARHI 2300 Art History I and ARHI 2400 Art History II before beginning a minor in art history and enrolling in any 3000-level art history courses. (Note that ARHI 2300 will satisfy Area IV of the Core Curriculum). For the minor, students must complete 15 hours (5 courses) of upper-level art history. Nine hours (3 courses) at the 3000 level are required, and must be in three of the four areas listed below. After these courses are completed, the student will be given permission to register for 4000-level courses. Six hours (2 courses) at the 4000 level are necessary to complete the minor. Even as a declared minor, students need permission from the area to register for 4000-level courses.
Minors must complete courses in at least three of the following areas:
- Ancient, Late Antique, Medieval, and Asian
- Renaissance and Baroque
- 18th- and 19th-century
